Yacht Regattas and Race Training

Yacht Regattas and Race Training are some of the activities we specialise in. SIA have won many of the top regattas in Asia over the last twenty years as well as pilot race training for ISSA and previously the RYA.   At Sail in Asia we have the yachts, the experience and the ideal training grounds for teaching keen sailors to race or to improve their current race skills. Your yacht race training is in good hands, we have excellent sailors with great racing experience to teach you so you are sure to get good training. Our yachts always do well in the local regattas, including the Phuket Kings Cup, so you know it’s not just talk.

Our staff know a lot about how to make a boat sail fast and how to win races. Let them show you, ON OUR FLEET of 7 matched Platus. We will teach you to use spinnakers and to understand race tactics, tune rigs and set sails. There’s a lot to learn, so start early, if you want to participate in this regatta in October.

Race Training at Phuket Water Sports Centre

Our Yacht Regattas and Race Training are held at Phuket Water Sport Centre at Ao Yon near Cape Panwa. The SIA Race training is for members of the Phuket Water Sports club – FREE until after Covid. The race training enables members to participate in local racing at Phuket Yacht Club and also our own friendly regattas at Ao Yon. Form a race crew and you are then able to reserve the boat of their choice to race in. The Platu Class may be 7/8 boats this year. The new boat that everyone wants to sail is Magic – our JOD 35. Check out this boat – only 4 tons and with a tall racing rig.

Choose the Class of One Design Yachts you want to race!

Our Yacht Regattas and Race Training are held in September and October – the windy months. The Airlines Regatta and the One Design Regatta are popular with sailors. Airline crews are able to reserve the boat of their choice from May 1st 2020. The Platu Class may be 7/8 boats this year. The Notice of Race gives you the all up maximum crew weight for each class. Three other classes are invited to the One Design Regatta, Firefly Sports catamaran, Farr 1104’s and Pulse 600’s. October is the windy month in Phuket and we expect some really exciting racing in the environs of  Ao Chalong and Ao Yon where the courses will be set.
